In December 2003, the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 was introduced to protect against discrimination on the grounds of religion, religious belief or other philosophical belief in employment and vocational training.'
As a result of this act
'NHS Employers is committed to supporting NHS organisations improve access to services for patients and staff, regardless of religious or philosophical beliefs. This includes assistance through the Positively Diverse programme to develop model policies on a wide range of issues, from meeting spiritual needs and ensuring freedom of religious expression for patients and staff, to adjusting work rotas to accommodate prayer times or religious holidays.'
