'It's against the law for an employer to discriminate against you because of your religion or certain beliefs Find out about your rights and what you can do if you're worried about religion or belief discrimination...Employment law defines religion or belief as any religion, religious belief or similar philosophical belief. There's no specific list, but it includes all major religions, and less widely practised ones.Direct discrimination....You have the right not to be treated less favourably than someone else (eg not being promoted) because of your religion or belief, your perceived religion or belief, or the religion or belief of people you associate with........You have the right not to be bullied or made fun of at work or in a work-related setting (for example, a social event) because of your religion or belief.You also have the right not to be victimised. You shouldn't be treated less favourably because you've complained (or been involved in a complaint) about religion or belief discrimination.'

In December 2003, the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 was introduced to protect against discrimination on the grounds of religion, religious belief or other philosophical belief in employment and vocational training.'
As a result of this act
'NHS Employers is committed to supporting NHS organisations improve access to services for patients and staff, regardless of religious or philosophical beliefs. This includes assistance through the Positively Diverse programme to develop model policies on a wide range of issues, from meeting spiritual needs and ensuring freedom of religious expression for patients and staff, to adjusting work rotas to accommodate prayer times or religious holidays.'
